Paper Publication: Available adult intensive care and high dependency provision census (KH03a) |
|
This book provides data for England, regional office areas and NHS Trusts on the number of available adult intensive care and high dependency beds, by location, on the census day. Locations are aggregated to provide separate totals for general and specialist beds. Specialist includes cardiothoracic, liver, neurological, spinal injury and burns. A census is taken twice a year to represent winter and summer provision. In 1999 the dates were 31 March and 30 September. In 2000 the dates have been brought forward to mid January and mid July. A census provides a snapshot of provision on one particular day. In interpreting the figures it should be noted that the number of beds may vary from day to day according to clinical demands and staff availability, with flexibility between general, specialist and high dependency beds. A new data collection form was introduced for the January 2000 census to provide more detailed information on specialist high dependency beds and beds not in units. How tables in book relate to this site The tables form part of the data in the Critical Care Beds table on this site. |
