Day Only Beds
This overview is intended to aid understanding and interpretation of the figures and should not be considered as definitive guidance. Full definitions of published data items, including guidance for data suppliers, are available in the Data Manual and Data Dictionary.

The 'total available beds' figure is the average daily number of open and staffed beds in wards that are open during the day only in NHS hospitals in England. These beds could be in a separate day-case unit or a designated ward for day-cases that was not open overnight. Beds on wards open overnight that were used for day-case patients would count as overnight beds and not day only beds. Figures are submitted annually on form KH03 by each NHS Trust and provide a summary across all hospital sites within the Trust.
