A & E Attendances
This overview is intended to aid understanding and interpretation of the figures and should not be considered as definitive guidance. Full definitions of published data items, including guidance for data suppliers, are available in the Data Manual and Data Dictionary.

Total attendances is the number of attendances at accident & emergency (A&E) departments and minor injury units. The type of A&E department is included under Supporting Facilities. Figures are submitted annually on form KH09 by each NHS Trust and provide a summary across all A&E sites within the Trust. Figures are sub-divided into first and follow-up attendances. A first attendance is the first for a given injury or condition - any other attendances at the same department for the same injury or condition are follow-up attendances.
