UPEs (Unrestricted Principals and Equivalents) includes Unrestricted Principles (UPs), PMS contracted GPs and PMS salaried GPs.
Total Practitioners also includes "Other PMS" doctors (not shown separately above) who work in PMS pilots and are the equivalents of Assistants or Salaried Doctors. In 1998 there were 9 and in 1999 there were 42.
Estimated whole-time equivalent (WTE) UPEs are calculated based on the results of the 1992-93 GMP Workload Survey using factors of: 1.00 full time UPEs; 0.69 three quarter time; 0.65 job share; 0.60 half time.
WTE Practice staff total for 1998 and 1999 does not include WTE Community nurses who are seconded to PMS Pilots, there were 62 WTE and 71 WTE community nurses respectively. These are however included in Total Practice Staff Number.
