The Department of Health is responsible for health services (such as GPs and hospitals) and Personal Social Services (such as residential care, child protection and home help) in England.
This publication contains a selection of statistics from across this range of services. It is intended both to provide a useful starting point into DH statistics and act as a summary reference document. If you want to find out more detail about a particular topic a full list of DH statistical publications is available. Each table also has the telephone number and email address of the relevant statistical contact.
An increasing number of statistics are being placed on the Internet, at Statistics & Surveys.
This publication mainly deals with services. Further information on aspects of health - for example "health registrations" such as births, deaths and cancer - is collected and published by the Office for National Statistics. Information for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is available from the respective national departments.
